Yoooo okay so I have been lurking on random fermentation boards for like six straight years just quietly saving photos of funky carboys to my phone like an absolute weirdo. I finally decided to bite the bullet and carve out our own corner because something happened last Tuesday that made me realize we genuinely need a dedicated sanctuary for this madness. Basically I had this five-gallon carboy of a spontaneous blackberry sour tucked away in the back corner of our linen closet for like fourteen months. My roommate Dave went in looking for clean pillowcases, bumped the blanket off the neck, shines his flashlight in, and deadass let out a shriek that sounded like he walked in on a ghost. He ran out screaming that there was a toxic bioluminescent fungal monster spreading across our laundry and that we needed to call the city hazmat team. I had to sprint over and physically tackle him before he poured bleach down the airlock. When I actually looked at it with the flashlight, man, it was the single most breathtaking chalky white spiderweb pellicle with these tiny translucent CO2 bubbles trapped right underneath the folds. It looked like an alien landscape from some high-budget sci-fi movie. We need a hub to celebrate that exact visual terror. Whether you are brewing lambics, solera sours, funky kombucha scobys that went full cosmic horror, or just accidental wild fermentations where Brettanomyces took over your garage, post the film, post the veins, and drop your recipes. Super stoked to see what kind of weird stuff everyone has growing in their closets.
