tuned into 518 khz two nights ago around 0300 utc just to see if the local navtex was still chugging. got a continuous carrier with a weak 400hz tone pulse every ten seconds. no id, no fsk data burst. checked the old ITU lists from 1984 and there used to be an auxiliary coastal beacon right on that bearing. either some pirate found an old tube rig in a shed or atmospheric ducting is bounceing something that died thirty years ago. people obsess over voices reading digits but the dead silence between tones is where things get weird.
