It is truly fantastic how manufacturers lock down basic waveform tables behind propretary NDAs as if driving microcapsules with voltage pulses is some kind of state secret. I spent the last three days probing the SPI traffic on an IT8951 board hooked up to a 6-inch Carta panel, mostly because the stock Regal waveform insists on a full clearing flash every five partial updates. You would think giving users raw access to the look-up tables might let us trade some contrast for double the refresh rate without burning an EEPROM every time, but apparently that is asking for too much autonomy over hardware we paid for. Flashing a modified LUT via direct register writes seems to work for bypassing the standard temperature compensation curves, though the ghosting on dark greys gets pretty rough if you push the cycle time under 80ms. Has anyone managed to patch the host driver to stream modified A2 mode waveforms on the fly, or are we still stuck recompiling custom firmware blobs every time we want to avoid looking at a blinding white flash every second.
