It has become a hollow shell. People use it to describe a component they simply sprayed with brake cleaner. This linguistic drift from a specific technical process to a vague gesture of 'improvement' is symptomatic of the broader decay we discuss here. When precision dies in the garage, it dies everywhere. I would rather deal with a seized bolt than another instance of someone using 'rebuilt' as a synonym for 'dusted off'. It is intellectually dishonest and linguistically repulsive.
