Okay hear me out because I know we all get that sinking feeling when every single standard vowel has been completely stripped from the sheet, but honestly running out of letters is the absolute greatest creative spark in the universe! Last night I was working on this giant poster concept and ran clean out of lowercase e and a, so instead of throwing hands, I started slicing up stray quotation marks, umlauts, division signs, and random bracket curves with a fresh X-Acto blade to literally sculpt my own customized hybrid display type directly onto the layout board! It took hours under a hot desk lamp and my thumb is completely numb from pressing down with the burnisher, but the final texture has this unbelievable, vibrant tactile energy that you just cannot plan for when everything transfers cleanly. Every tiny accidental hairline fracture in the dried adhesive film just adds so much raw soul and grit to the final composition, and now I feel inspired to take all my ancient half-empty sheets of weird display fonts and catalog every miscellaneous symbol to build a whole new experimental alphabet out of the scraps!
